short documentary film which captures the history of a rural community
store in Brasstown, North Carolina known as Clay’s Corner,
featuring the candid and authentic experiences that are part of
small town living and everyday life at the store – as well
as the main event of the store’s calendar year, which is
the “Possum Drop.” Instead of ringing in the New Year
with the descent of the New York Apple, the folks at Clay’s
Corner (slowly) drop a live possum in a cage and then return it
to the wild.

After getting dumped days before her wedding, Helen puts on her dress
and goes to the top of a fifteen-story building to jump. She throws
her ring off the ledge and in a stroke of fate it lands fifteen stories
below in Gordon's coffee cup. He rushes up to Helen and tries to
get her not to jump because he believes this isn't a coincidence
and is
sure Helen is his soul mate, because today just happens to be the
first day he has taken off his wedding ring from his failed
marriage three
years ago. Fate has other plans for Gordon.

Yancy, a lonely young man, is stood up by his date and while playing
a game of Battleship by his lonesome, is visited by a hooker named
Sierra who has him confused for her client. After the miscommunication
is cleared up, and Yancy pays her twenty dollars, Sierra decides to
stay and play Battleship with him before her actual appointment. Yancy
compares his love life to the pieces on his Battleship board and, after
inadvertently insulting Sierra, she compares her life to the lipstick
and whipped cream in her purse. Yancy lays his heart out, hoping Sierra
will stay a while, but she leaves anyway. Yancy sits alone again, but
it turns out that he had more of an impact on Sierra than he initially
thought.
