Thursday,
1:30pm, Wild Wing Cafe For the past two years Asheville has been host to the 48 Hour Film Project with over 50 teams competing. The 48 Hour Film Project held in over 35 cities around the world is the original film competition that asks filmmakers to make a movie in just 48 hours; meaning teams must write, produce, cast, shoot, edit, score and deliver in two days. This screening includes some of the best films from both the 2005 and 2006 competitions. The 48 Hour Film Project Asheville is organized by our local producer Katie Kasben and sponsored by Asheville Pizza & Brewing; Bonesteel Films; and AdvantageWest. The 48 Hour Film Project's mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its festival/competition, the 48 Hour Film Project encourages filmmakers and would be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers - emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. The emphasis is on "doing" instead of "talking". In 2006, Baltimore, with a regional population of 2.5 million people had 28 teams compete yet Asheville, with a regional population of just 380,000 had 33 teams compete. Our filmmakers are enthusiastic and we look forward to the 48 Hour Film Project Asheville in 2007. Please go to www.48hourfilm.com for more information. |
